ABOUT ME

My name is Alison Cosentino. In 1988, I started my college career, uncertain of how to navigate toward my "dream job." I accidentally found a passion for fitness, but had no idea that fitness was about to take me on a journey all over the world. I stumbled into a fitness job that enticed me away from my sophomore year of college and took me to Germany, Switzerland, France, Italy & the Netherlands. I returned to the U.S. at the age of 23 with a successful fitness career, and opened my first business in 2000. For more than 30 years, I've pursued knowledge & experience in fitness and health. In 2017, I had the honor of managing and accompanying the USA University Weightlifting Team to Taipei, Taiwan. We spent 10 days competing against every country and staying in the athlete village. In 2019, I decided to pursue a second career and complete my college education. Enthusiastic about following another passion, I found my way to the ASL/English Interpreting program at FSCJ in pursuit of gaining the knowledge to use ASL to teach the sport of Olympic Weightlifting to youth in the local Deaf community.

ENGLISH TRANSCRIPT

Hello. My name is Alison Cosentino. This is my sign name.

I have wanted to learn ASL for many years. Two years ago, I finally took my first ASL class. I decided I want to become fluent and gain the skills I need to communicate with the Deaf community so I went back to college to pursue a degree in ASL/English Interpreting at FSCJ.

Becoming an excellent interpreter is my new journey. Currently, I am focusing on expanding my ASL vocabulary and choosing my ASL words more efficiently for translation. I think my biggest strength is facial expression.

I use the clear guidelines provided in the CPC to understand and meet professional expectations.

My hope for the future is to have a Youth Weightlifting program that is inclusive of the youth in the Deaf community.
